The Science & Philosophy of Chiropractic

Dr. Dan Murphy brings his energizing and captivating style to Jerusalem. This seminar updates the modern chiropractor on the advancement of the science of chiropractic, especially the subluxation and the adjustment, and how the latest scientific updates support the philosophy of chiropractic. You'll experience an integration of evolution, infection, immunology, inflammation, pathology, levers, fibrosis, tensegrity, and neurology. Interactive drawings of neurology will be a part of the learning process. All concepts will be supported by a literature review, and dialogue is always welcome.

Dr. Ron Oberstein

Ron Oberstein, DC graduated from Life Chiropractic College (now Life University) in 1981. Prior to becoming the president of Life West, Dr. Oberstein was a member of the Life Chiropractic College West Board of Regents from 1991 to 2016, including two years as the Chairman of the Board.

As an active member of the chiropractic community, Dr. Oberstein has served in instructional and leadership roles in numerous organizations. He has taught chiropractic technique, philosophy and principles in multiple chiropractic colleges and throughout the world. Dr. Oberstein strongly conveys chiropractic vitalism with a deep understanding of the salutogenic health model and its incredible value for patient care.

Dr. Oberstein and his wife of 30 years, Dr. Mary Oberstein, have practiced together since 1986, serving multitudes of patients and mentoring new graduates. They travel the world spreading the chiropractic message, and they started a nonprofit organization delivering chiropractic care globally to children and adults in need with a focus in Tijuana, Mexico. They have three daughters, Drs. Lauren, Morgan and Sydney, all of whom are chiropractors.

Dr. Jeff Scholten

Jeffrey N. Scholten, DC, is a published clinical researcher whose duties have included serving as the director of the Vital Posture Clinic, president of NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association), president and board member of the ICA’s Upper Cervical Council, and board member of the Upper Cervical Research Foundation. His passions include helping people suffering from traumatic neck injuries and assisting fellow clinicians with developing and maintaining outstanding office procedures. A resident of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Scholten has maintained a private practice since 2001.

Vertebral Subluxation and Chiropractic Technique: The Craniocervical Junction

The assessment of vertebral subluxation and subsequent chiropractic intervention in the upper neck has enjoyed a rich history within the chiropractic profession. From concerns about side effects associated with intervention, to the miracles seen in the offices of clinicians, there is little doubt that this critical region of the spine deserves careful attention.

Questions We'll Answer

The science and understanding of chiropractic is evolving rapidly. To be the best provider, is it imperative to update our education with clear, verifiable, scholarly information. This seminar will bring you up to date with questions like the following:

  • How does chiropractic influence musculoskeletal pain? Let’s map the relevant pathways.
  • What are the anatomical and physiological connections between Headache/Temporomandibular joint disorders/Meniere’s Disease/Otitis Media/Tinnitus?
  • What are the two primary causes of systemic inflammation that increase the risk of pain subsequent to musculoskeletal stress and injury?
  • How many indexed studies have been published this year (2019) so far looking in depth into the risk of cervical manipulation and cervical artery dissection, and what were their conclusions?
  • How effective is chiropractic care at reducing the use of narcotics (opiates/opioids)?
  • What drug is probably the single most prominent cause of pain?
  • Can you name any randomized clinical trials comparing chiropractic adjusting to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and what were the outcomes?
  • What postural distortion is most linked to chronic pain, poor health and the need for assistance with the activities of daily living later in life?
  • What is the link between junk food driven neurochemicals and the neurochemistry of the chiropractic adjustment?

We hope to see you in class for an amazing educational experience!
